The Newham Deanery Choir
The Newham Deanery Choir meets once a month at St. Margaret and All Saints Church, Barking Rd., from 3-5pm with refreshments after so that people from different parishes can socialise. Meetings are more frequent when rehearsing for a special event.
There are 36 regular members: 20 sopranos, 10 altos, 4 tenors and 1 bass; there are also some members who turn up as they can. The Conductor is Margaret Elsom, and Helen Coleman is the Choir Organiser.
Each priest in the Deanery has been asked to allow the choir to sing in their church at least once a year, perhaps for a special occasion. The aim is to support parish choirs and music, not to take it over. The Choir does not sing at Sunday morning masses because most members have responsibilities in their own parishes.
