St Bede, Bishop’s Avenue, Chadwell Heath
The parish of St Bede, Chadwell Heath is part of the Diocese of Brentwood and is sited on the border of
Essex and London. The present church was opened in 1963 and is hexagonal in shape. It holds 440
people.
The organ was installed in the church in May 1977. It was originally built by Cedric Arnold of Thaxted,
Essex in 1951. Between 1977 and 1986 several changes were made to the organ and in 1986 the organ
was cleaned and overhauled. By 2003 it was apparent that the organ needed further maintenance work
carrying out, and this was done in December 2004. In 2009 it was decided to enhance the instrument
digitally in order to provide missing key stops and provide the most versatile instrument possible.
A full history of the organ is available here.
