Brentwood Cathedral Choir

Information for Probationers

Brentwood Cathedral Choir was founded in 1984 originally as a Boys’ Choir, and the Choir gradually expanded to include adult singers consisting of Lay Clerks, voluntary gentlemen and former choristers. The Choristers rehearse three times a week and are drawn from the diocese. The Choir very recently has incorporated a soprano Consort.

In addition to the major Cathedral liturgies and the Sunday Choral Mass (11.30am), the Choir Ladies and Gentlemen also sing Choral Vespers on the third Sunday of each month. Choral Vespers is also sung weekly on Wednesdays in term time by the Cathedral Choir or by the Brentwood Singers.

The Choir has been involved in a number of recordings, broadcasts – both radio and television - and concerts, and has toured extensively in Belgium, Holland, Germany and Ireland. Since 2003 the Choir has appeared at Antwerp Cathedral and Notre Dame, Paris and in May 2008 will be singing in St Peter’s Basilica, Rome.

The Choir is affiliated to the RSCM and enjoys particularly close musical and ecumenical links with the Diocese of Chelmsford and Chelmsford Cathedral Choir, involving liturgical events and also shared training through the Bishops' Chorister Award.
