Brentwood Cathedral Music Association

Brentwood Cathedral is the focal point for a Diocese which covers the County of Essex, Southend and Thurrock, and the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest. It is also an important building in the Borough of Brentwood. The Music Department’s most important function is to provide music for the Cathedral liturgy; it also promotes the Cathedral as a centre of musical excellence in the area, and makes further provision for musical education.

The Department organises a number of choral, orchestral and training pro-grammes. The Cathedral Choir, Cathedral Singers, Cathedral Music Group, Youth Music Group and Brentwood Tallis Consort are all administered by the Music Department. The Cathedral Choir has a particular responsibility and in view of this is further supported by the Brentwood Diocesan Cathedral and Choral Trust Fund for the professional singers at the Cathedral. Overall, concerts, tours, recordings and broadcasts are regularly undertaken and, as well as promoting the music of the Cathedral and Diocese, the programme of events seeks to extend the work to a wide audience both at home and abroad.

How the Associates help

  • Associates take an active interest in the work of the whole Music Department by promoting and supporting concerts, liturgies, recordings and specific events which will help develop the prestige, work and facilities for the Music Department.
  • To help facilitate this, Associates will be kept regularly informed about the work of the Department and will also receive a Newsletter twice yearly which will give up-to-date reports on all musical activities
  • There will additionally be a 10% discount available on advance bookings for concert tickets for Associates
  • They will also receive invitations to special music occasions and events.
  • Most importantly, the Music Department values the help and interest of Associates in our music. We do ask for a small donation of £10 from Associates to help cover administration costs. Associates, in due course, may also request a separate form for any additional financial and regular support they may like to give

Application form for membership If you wish to join the Brentwood Cathedral Music Association please print off the application form, fill it in and return it to the Music Office.
